Hota was a malamute-wolf cross who lived at Mission: Wolf. Despite the low wolf-content, he was hot-heated and unsuitable to live in a home. The famous “Hota Hill” that overlooks Mission: Wolf to the East and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the West was named after this founding member of the refuge. Hota later became father to Haida. Hota passed away due to old-age, but his spirit still lives in his namesake mountain.
