Cutie Pie’s Story
Cutie Pie was born in the spring of 2009 at Bear Country, a wildlife safari park in South Dakota. He was one of four arctic gray pups who came to Mission: Wolf, along with four Canadian gray wolf pups who had been raised in the same enclosure. Due to the failing economy, Bear Country had been unable to sell the two litters and was no longer able to care for the growing pups. At nearly four months of age, the pups arrived at Mission: Wolf in a horse trailer thanks to the help of a dedicated volunteer and many hours of driving.
One of our lead Ambassadors, Magpie, had just come out of a false pregnancy so she and her partner Abraham eagerly took the pups in. Just as the wolves began to settle into life at the refuge, tragedy struck and the pups became ill with parvovirus. Cutie Pie’s adoptive siblings, Pharaoh and Nikkolah II, both passed first, and Cutie Pie succumbed to the virus shortly after. His young and playful spirit was only with us for a short period of time, but he will always be remembered.
