Ginger Willow
Morgan Mare
Ginger Willow’s Story
We received a call about a Morgan mare from a distraught elderly gentleman who needed help getting his horse out of her stall. He said on the phone that she was elderly and had a foot injury from a trim she had received that was too short. After that day, he said, the horse could not walk. She was surrendered to us and was found standing in a foot of muck and manure. She had been in a stall for a year due to the trouble with her feet.
During the veterinarian exam, it was determined she was suffering from Cushing's Disease. We hired a farrier that specialized in hoof issues. He trimmed her down and taped styrofoam to her feet with duct tape, and for the first time in over a year, she could walk freely and happily. She required regular injections to help her feel well, and she lived very happily with us for a year before she became too sick for quality of life.
