Lyra’s Story
Lyra is one of the 4 newest residents of Mission: Wolf. This tiny she-wolfdog was named for the constellation depicting Orpheus’ lyre, and is associated with music, inspiration, and harmony. As the most vocal and most social of the 4 new puppies, Lyra’s name fits her beautifully.
As a 5-month-old pup, Lyra was abandoned and later found by rescuers staggering across the road in a small California town. Lyra was extremely weak and had to be lifted into the vehicle and her new home with a blanket. Her tiny body was so emaciated that she suffered open pressure sores on both hips where the bones of her pelvis rubbed through. Despite her suffering, Lyra’s behavior from the start was purely docile and sweet. Over the next week, Lyra gained strength, and it became clear how extremely loving she is towards the human friends around her.
Lyra is truly one of the most social, gentle, and happy wolfdog puppies we have ever seen. She adores all human friends and loved her adoptive siblings Spirit, Atlas, and Wylder, but was not shy to show them who’s boss. She would often dramatically vocalize over a piece of meat, toy, or boisterous wrestling session. Lyra also loves to take small walks on a leash.
In winter of 2024 Lyra and Atlas were moved into their own enclosure and have been enthusiastically social with nearly everyone. They can frequently can be found playing with each other and they bring smiles to every person they meet
